Description

I made this for my sister’s 13th birthday. She’s a Star Wars fan like me, so I thought I’d make her a Luke Skywalker-ish shirt. I used the shirt he wears in Episode IV: A New Hope for inspiration. I used the Simplicity pattern 3786, view B (minus the lace).
The fabric was really interesting. I found it at my favorite discount fabric store for $1.99 a yard and I fell in love with it. It was on a roll, and when I took it to the cutting counter, I realized it was cut in to 2 yard or less chunks. Not only that, but it had giant blue “SAMPLE” words stamped on it. I was really disappointed, because the pattern called for 2 1/2 yards; but I just bought the biggest piece I could, with the faintest stampings on it. When I got it home, I put spot remover on the blue stains and washed it. Thankfully, it did the trick and the stains came out almost completely. You can still see them if you examine the shirt really close, but they are really faint. Also, with some tricky cutting, I managed to make 2 yards suffice.
That said, the pattern sewed together like a dream. It was really easy: and including cutting time, it only took me 4 hours to finish.
My sis freaked out when she opened it, and I think she really liked it. I’m pretty satisfied how it turned out myself.
