Description

Burda Style’s Kiki. I was surprised to see more didn’t take on this pattern. I’ve been looking for the right opportunity to make a nautical inspired dress and when I came across the second posting of this dress “Kiki Black & White Dress” , I was instantly drawn to it. The shape is so feminine and sweet.

This pattern had a lot more details than any other I’ve made so far. The button loops on the back took quite some time for me to perfect. I hope to see more versions of this dress from others.

Material Notes

Cotton Swiss dot ( found second hand) and red striped cotton with very light stretch.

    Hello Rifka,

    Your kiki dress looks very beautiful, you did a great job. I’d need some help though. I really tried to understand the intructions but maybe my english is not good enough. I made the top and bottom of the fabric and lining. The top is assembled with the lining. I am putting together the lining of the bottom and I can’t figure out how the lining of the top and the bottom joins, if they join. The lining of the top is shorter and as a consequence, if I stich the lining, the back of the top will be loose :/

      Hello – It’s been awhile since I made this dress, but I believe I assembled the top and bottom lining pieces together prior to sewing them into the dress. If I remember correctly, the lining is virtually the same pattern pieces as the outer dress so they should match up the same way without being shorter or more loose. The dress does sit rather loose on my shoulders and not as taut as it could be at the back. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance to you. I would love to see your completed project. Good luck!

    I loved the black and white version too and I have bought the pattern and do intend to make it, it is super cute and your version is a great choice for the nautical look, you’ve done a really good job and sounds like you learn’t some new skills to add to your sewing CV along the way :) I am still looking for the right fabric for my version, I hope they eventually post the fabric split for top and skirt parts.

      I made a size 38, using 1yard of 56" fabric for the skirt. I wasn’t paying too much attention to the amount of fabric for the top since I was using fabric found from a thrift shop, but I would estimate 2 yards to be sufficient. Can’t wait to see your version!
