When I first picked up this pattern ( Vogue V1102), my intent was to make a cocktail dress. Possibly taffeta, definitely dark. Funny how if you hang onto something long enough your inclinations and thoughts toward it may begin to sway. This couldn’t have ended up more different than how I had planned. I often assess my current pattern and fabric stash prior to beginning a new project and I think this leads to a combination that I had not originally thought of . Depending on my state of mind and current whim, it could really go in any direction. I’m glad this one took the path it did.

I just love this! The colours are so poppy! I recently made this pattern in a dusty blue, and have contemplated doing a more colourful autumn inspired version, now i’m set on it. I love how you have split up the colours, bringing it all together with the yellow bias tape – its great!

SO cute this way. Did you take any fullness out of the skirt?

No, not at all. I did shorten the hem about 4 inches and add a skirt lining. The pattern just called for a self lined bodice.

This is really lovely. I’ve seen this pattern done before as a formal dress, and it really didn’t do anything for me. I would wear your version every day if I could get away with it. It’s so pretty, and I love the scooped waistline!

Just the fabric. The only interface is around the back bodice and front neckline. I did make the bow double sided though for additional structure. The pattern only required a single layer for the bow which I thought wouldn’t look as good when tied.
