I finished my waxed canvas jacket last week, and have been wearing it ever since. I think I’m in love. Now I need a motorcycle (have my license!)
There is a bit more info on my blog about the process, but in short, this came together much more easily than imagined. I used waxed canvas for the outer fabric, a thrifted bed sheet for the lining, stash fabric for the pockets, and splurged on fancy YKK Excella zips. The main alteration (other than fit) was to move the sleeve zips off the seam and to the inside. This allows for easy access, and it matches the rest of the exposed zips (the seams are in an awkward place for the zippers to actually be useful, IMO).
waxed canvas, cotton/poly bed sheet, cotton, 5 zippers,

Thanks, Ana :) Not quite perfect… in retrospect, I really should have used topstitching thread, which I always forget to buy. Some day I’ll remember everything in advance!

I too would fall in love with this :-)) Fabulous jacket, and not just for riding a bike, although it certainly would be fun, wearing this and riding a bike :-)

I’ll have to wrangle a ride from someone… right now it’s getting a lot of rides on the bus. That’s kinda lame ;)

Thanks Ralft! It’s finally done :) I just had an idea… imagining your pink Chanel-inspired moto jacket, but in pink leather. Woah!

Aw, thanks you! It’s in heavy rotation. Rotation? It’s the only weather-appropriate jacket I own. Ha!

Wow – you look way cool. Those zips sound scary and I love you salvaged a whole heap of stuff to make this. You are just too darn cool Honey – a sewer AND a biker – a lover, not a fighter. You never fail to impress me (who can’t really just drive a car and don’t get me started on zips…..). Born to be Wild, Born to be Wild! xxx

Biker jacket = total illusion of cool. Or maybe wearing a biker jacket actually makes one feel cool? Methinks that’s it! Peel it off, dork shines bright! Vroom vroom…
