My first attempt to sew for my 11-year-old niece in America (I’m in the UK). The pattern is Burda Kids 9547 B. It’s a shame most of the Burdastyle kids patterns are for younger kids. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to find patterns for her age group. Then I was warned they’re a picky lot. Maybe that’s why – they all rather be wearing RTW like everyone else. Hmm, hope she’ll like this jacket. Because I sacrificed some gorgeous buttons for it! And if it weren’t a few sizes too small I might have even kept this for myself!
I added full lining to the jacket and tried Kathleen Fasanella aka Fashion Incubator’s bagging technique for attaching the lining mostly by machine.
1. Tan polyester faux suede with copper foil dots from Joann in the USA
2. Golden orange poyester Silkytex lining from A-One Fabrics on Goldhawk Road, London
3. Sheer D’Light featherweight non-woven fusible interfacing for the bodice & sleeves. Armo Weft Suit Maker fusible interfacing for the facings.
