I really had no plan of making this dress until one evening I felt like sewing and started sifting through my fabric library. I came across this vintage knit floral fabric that I found at a rummage sale years ago. It’s not really my style of fabric, but I just really liked it. I decided right then and there that I was going to make something with it, and I wanted to make something simple, fast and easy. I went with the Jamie Shift Dress pattern from the BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern book. I also used the sleeve pattern from the Frank Shirt, because I wanted long sleeves for this time of year. For the dress I converted the darts into panels and used navy spandex and white mesh for the different dress panels. I continued the use of the white mesh for the sleeves, and gathered the sleeve hem into a nice little cuff.
I ended up wearing this dress to the San Fransisco book launch event at Britex Fabrics. I got these awesome limegreen sparkle shoes to “Meg” up the outfit!
The dress is really not my typical style, but I love how it turned out with the color blocking! And I have been getting a lot of wear out of it.
