Description
A Space Ranger uniform based on the 1950’s Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future concept. Dan Dare’s uniforms were based on RAF uniforms of the day. We had an RAF officer’s tunic to copy for details like the pockets and the belt loops, the front reveres, and other structural idea.
This is another Jolly Dicey creation. Looking at the time sheets, Su and I spend the same number of hours onthis one. She did many of the main seams and the buttonholes and other bits. I did the zip, the pockets, the collar, the belt, and many other pieces as well as some main seams
Material Notes
We used an all wool Barathea, lined with Bremsilk, a cupro lining. It was tailored using fusible tailoring methods. The collar felt was cut from a very splendid off-cut of black 100% cashmire Melton!

This is fab Darl! The details of the pockets and belt are, once again, perfection! I bet she had a ball wearing this outfit and she looks like she just stepped out of one of Dr Who’s adventures. It was nice you could use your Dad’s uniform for direction.

Ta! It was greatly appreciated. She was looking for lots more opportunities to wear it. :)

Great looking outfit! It’s always nice to have a garment for design reference to work from. Using pictures in books is great but you can’t peek around the back and see what it looks like as well!

Thanks. :) I couldn’t have worked out the pocket construction from pictures alone. They are… Interesting! And having a bit of ‘Gieves the Thieves’* artwork to follow was certainly a blessing!

Nope, more RAF No 1 dress uniform a la Gieves & Hawkes: http://pics.livejournal.com/katexxxxxx/pic/004×1s46
Or as worn by HRH Wiils: http://topnews.in/light/files/Prince-William-propo.jpg
I do love her Killer Look in that pic, though. No prisoners there!
Yup, my dad went to HRH’s tailors for his uniforms. :) http://pics.livejournal.com/katexxxxxx/pic/004xssbq/s640x480

Thanks. :)
Culottes are SO practical when you are a spaceship pilot! ;)

Thank you. ‘Culottes’ is the correct spelling, but since we were refering to them as the ‘cool-ottes’ by the end of fitting, I rather like your version. :)
The pattern was drafted from scratch for the whole outfit. As so many of our customers come in non-standard sizes and want ‘different’ or historically themed stuff, we usually find it easier just to draft.
