Description

I found this amazing coat on Modcloth site few months ago, wondering where could I find this type of fabric, with all that amazing embroidery at the edges. Finally I found this amazing embroidery wool locally, I bought 5 mts cause the embroidery was just set on one side. I tried to stick to the original model using a basic 4 buttoned coat pattern and then the skirt was made drapping by hand till it got the desired shape. Frontal skirt has deep fine pleats with stitches and also at the back. I made the collar pattern just exact as the original model. Two pockets at every side.
4 Silk Covered buttons for the final touches. Every single pleat and seam was really well ironed for this final neat result.
As you know I adore vintage, I arrange the look with the mary jane shoes, and the pill box style hat I also made.
At the last picture the peticoat is not supoussed to be seeing, sorry for that I just found the picture very nice. Linned very carefully in contrast pink and silver trim.
I feel very proud of this accomplishment, specially when I save myself 250 bucks

Well done Milkyway! The coat looks amazing, and I really like how you styled it with shoes and accessories. You look like you stepped out of an old movie :)

I can recommend you to start with simple patterns. Burda has 2 yearly editions called, BURDA EASY FASHION, the fall/winter edition has been released last week. You may find really easy patterns with the instructions and drawing
Drawing your own patterns?… it just come with the years, experience and imagination! Good Luck

hi I came accross this site searching for the sovereign style coat that modcloth had on their site last year I fell in love with it when I saw it but their price for it was kind of high so I went directly to the yumi uttam site and while it was a little cheaper their site didnt ship to the US so I went back to the modcloth site and they were sold out … so today checking to see if the yumi site still had the coat and if it was on sale and also if shipping matters changed they were sold out and still searching to see if i could find it somewhere else I found this site and your coat and I love it ….. I’ve always had an iterest in sewing but never tried or really had the time too just seeing your work and knowing how long youve been sewing really inspires me ….

You are very kind really, thank you. Your comments means a lot! You should try sewing, I have no knowledge before, just started due to the boringness in this country, and not finding nice, colorful and happy clothes, just grey and black pieces. so if I could do it so do you. Just give it a try! Good Luck

I am absolutely speechless. Your coat is stunning! it is a masterpiece! I’ve rarely seen such a beautiful coat. how long is your sewing experience? or did you learn to sew professionally? where did you get the pattern for the coat from?

Hi! Thank you for your comments. Actually I have not studied pattering or sewing at all. I started 2.5 years ago because of being bored. I used a pattern for the bodice, with some alterations (4 buttoned coat Burda Septem. 2009) the skirt and sleeves, the collar made them myself, grapping the skirt by hand, and trying to match the embroidery. I am so glad you like it!!!
