this dress tried to kill me.
this was the first (and last) time i’d ever decided to cut a muslin first. i chose this very slippery extremely flammable bastard of a print, thinking myself so smart to use cheap fabric that simulated the expensive silk i envisioned for it. after screaming through the first three pleats on the shoulder of this monster, i calmly folded every piece up and stowed it away in le ziploc bag.
three years later, i finished it. you can read how here: oonaballoona: je ne regrette rien
cursed slippery fabric, invsible zip, part of my soul. made from: burda style magazine - 5/2009 dress, # 118 (ps: what happened to the section here where you can list a pattern? "based on" won't work...)

yessssssssss you got it! edith was playing as i wrote the blog post, it seemed the perfect title. this, though, has brought me a baby step closer to going for the good stuff in fabric.

Your dress turned out lovely! Nice pattern! Currently, I’m making a dress in a cheap chiffon, i’ve been working on it since October, aaaaaargh! I want to start with a new project, but I’m forcing myself to finish this one first, I hope it turns out as nice as yours!

argh chiffon. i recommend plenty of wine as a stabilizer (for your sanity).

Oona, it’s gorgeous! And it looks great on you. I’d say it was definitely worth it. And I’m pretty sure real silk would have been a pain in the b***, too! Probably just as slick and you’d be terrified about making a mistake because of the expense. Good job! I love the dress.

thank you! yes, good point. probably if it had been silk it would still be in the bag, mocking me. i HATE to wreck expensive fabric.

I’m currently wrangling with a dress that is trying to kill me, I think I just got it under control over the weekend. If it wasn’t for how much I love the fabric I would have given up but now that it is almost done I feel relieved and an extra sense of accomplishment. I read your dress journey on your blog the other day. I’m glad you eventually pulled this dress out again and again, the fabric (I know it as horrid to work with) is really beautiful an the final dress looks amazing on you, well done ticking off another UFO.

You are utterly amazing! If I had gone through less than HALF of what you did to complete this lovely dress, I would have thrown the whole kit and kaboodle into the wood stove! I really enjoy reading your posts and looking at your latest creations!
