I made this dress to attend a close friend’s beach wedding. Recently, I had sewn my So 90s, so hipster dress as a wearable muslin in preparation for this dress. My goal was to get the bodice fit right at the bust darts and at the back bodice. However I forgot to account for the stretch in the fabric due to the spandex blend. The fabric was also a little heavier than I had anticipated. This meant that although I shortened the closely-fitting bodice, the drape and weight of the skirt dragged the bodice forwards and down. Thankfully, it’s not that noticeable.
The pattern was easy to follow and construction fairly simple. Again, I applied the all-in-one facing the Burdastyle method rather than the one suggested in the pattern instructions because I think it gives a neater finish.
The beach wedding was lovely, the weather perfect and the dress evoked Summer sun(burn.)
Monotone sateen crosshatch (flame) 122cm, 80% cotton/ 20% spandex ($5/metre Spotlight clearance table); 51cm invisible zipper, iron on interfacing, thread
