Description

Loved this dress and I thought it would love me too. WRONG! Friends and Family seem to enjoy it but I’m not sure I’ll wear it again. Learned a lot making it though…

Original dress (McCalls 6520) had a button front and drawstring. I swapped it for a zipper (my busty self and buttons are NOT friends). Shirttail hem was bit exaggerated for effect but I underestimated my frontal length….O_O

Material Notes

Blue cotton twill..
multi colored kinte cloth..
brass two way zipper only ended up using it as a one way)

Thanks so much! It’s kente cloth. I was going to use an exposed zipper but my sister forced me to cover it. Glad she did! :)

You look good in that dress, everybody can’t be telling you the same thing and we all are wrong.

thanks Wildflower31! I’m starting to listen. Normally I love whatever I wear but I lost interest halfway through. It’s growing on me bit by bit so I’ll probably pull it out again.

thanks!!! I LOVE that belt. I almost made one for my Wonder Woman costume (pictures on my wall as well) but my lovely LOVELY mother found one and I decided it was too great to just be a costume belt. The length doesn’t bother me until I sit down (don’t really want to have to coordinate my underthings just in case…know what I mean? :)). The altering wasn’t bad at all. I know drawstrings don’t work for me so there was NO way that was going in. Everything else was a bit of math and trickery!

I think it is a beautiful color for you, I agree, maybe just add leggings (or some kind of trim???) if you are concerned about the length. Personally, I believe you can get away with flaunting it with the boots! You are brave to alter a pattern, I don’t know if I would be able to do that, so congratulations, nice job!

Thanks so much! I do love the color. Originally I was going to use it for wide leg pants but I love dresses so much…I felt I didn’t have a choice. :)

Haha! Thanks! My niece had a “mad hatter” themed bridal shower so my daughters and I went to Hobby Lobby and spent WAY too much money to make crazy hats. We sure had fun, though!
