This dress started out as a costume for a Film Noir party I was invited to. I got so many complements on it I wear it to work sometimes. I used the pattern V8280 from Vogue. (I am not sure if I am supposed to put projects that are not Burda up….So someone virtually yell at me if I am doing something wrong and I will stop!)
I used a tiny houndstooth pattern suiting material. I am terrible at knowing what I am actually using. It is soft like a flannel but much less heavy.

I adore your choice of design and fabric. I can see why you get so many compliments, it is just gorgeous!

Love the neckline. It looks very comfy for work (and professional, too). I could teach high school in something like that and still feel fashionable.

I teach 1st grade and wear it. I think you would be fine. I wear a black turtle neck under it.

Florida doesn’t give us very many turtleneck days. Except for this week! Our highs will be in the mid40s. Very unusual to have 4-5 days of such weather.

It looks fantastic!!!!!!!!! And to think that I just saw and almost got that same fabric (or at least a very similar one) yesterday on a bargain shelf!!!!!!!! And at once I thought of something similar to your dress (even though, I doubt mine would work out so beautifully!) Unfortunately, I was at the store with my husband and step-son and when I showed it to them (mainly for my husband), my step-son said: “So what? It’s just some ugly plaid…” Needless to say, my mood was lost (to say the least) and I didn’t get it (and now, seeing your creation, I am kicking my … self for it!!!). It definitely goes into my favourites, though, and I will show them what it was and what they deprived me off…

hahah! My family does the same thing. Then I will walk up the stairs with something awesome and they drop their jaws saying that I am “Amazing.” Boys are weird.

I bet! I think that dress would be great made with a Batik of some sort. it would make it very summery and cool for really hot days! Now you got me thinking….

It’s gorgeous! Good job. I suck at knowing what kind of fabric I’m using too, since most of it comes from a bargain bin, and the rest I forget to pay attention. Oops.

Thank you so much for the info and the complement. This is just the outlet I needed. None of my friends sew, nor do any of my family. Everyone likes what I do but I just don’t get constructive criticism, or inspiration from them. This is such a great networking tool that leaves me wanting to run downstairs and sew up something! So I will keep uploading many many things to come! Happy New year all!

sure, you’re allowed to put pictures and patternreviews of every type here, just don’t upload the actual pattern (copyright!) I hope you’ll keep uploading such wonderfull garements – the dress looks great!
