My niece really wanted a reversible Sleeping Beauty dress as in the Disney movie it keeps having its colour switched from pink to blue. I tried suggesting a two tone fabric instead that changes colour with the light but she was having none of it so this is what she ended up with.
I’m hoping it’s how she pictured it but I guess, if not, we can always adapt it together and add bits, might give her a love of adapting her own clothes too then (sneaky) :-)
Originally I used a dress pattern for the top half that looked fitted in the pictures but when I measured it against her measurements was with more than 20cm extra ease. Almost looked like I could get in to it! So i hunted for a t-shirt pattern as I didn’t have any of hers to hand and re-cut it to that. Fingers crossed I haven’t made it too tight around the armholes now though as I really don’t fancy unpicking and adding any allowance there.
I just cut the skirt panels to fit the bodice and drafted the collar myself.
It’s all stretchy fabric so she should be able to move about easily enough in it.
She’s kept asking if it was finished yet and I told her fibs yesterday saying there was just a bit more to do but I’d actually given it to her mum to hang in her room while she was asleep so she should wake to find it just like in the movie :-)
soft jersey for the sleeves and skirts
stretch velvet for the bodice
stretch glitter tulle for the cuffs, top layer of collar and hem
heavy interfacing inside the collar
