A torn skirt from the thrift shop finds new life as a summer bo-ho shirt, perfect for warm evenings. The skirt was very full and had a wonderful cutwork pattern embroidered on the hem. Sadly, it had many rips and tears and sat lost and forlorn on the bargain rack. I liked the cutwork so I decided there was enough fabric for a simple summer shirt. The cutwork became part of the neckline and the hem. There’s a seam under the bust and a draw string to make it tighter or looser. The armholes are slightly cut-away from the shoulder as I am obsessed with cut-away shoulders. The pattern is a quick ‘n’ dirty adaptation of a basic shift dress pattern block. I worked out the pattern and arrangement of the pieces on graph paper before cutting. I added some sew-on acrylic and glass rhinestones for a bit of sparkle. They were sewn to random spots on the embroidery, the center of flowers, tips of leaves, just random places here and there. Everything needs a bit of sparkle. Fitting the pattern pieces on the skirt was tricky, arranging around the rips and tears added to the challenge. The top is quite nice, adds class to simple jeans and a summery lightness to my bo-ho hippie skirts.
cotton, rayon embrodery, black glass sew-on rhinestones, opal acrilic sew on rhinestones, rayon satin cord drawstring, acrylic opal beads on the drawstring.
