Singapore Sling Coat

Added Nov 22, 2010

by ladyshape

Edinburgh, Unite...

A 1950’s swing coat with funnel collar, 3/4 length sleeves and back pleat.

Material Notes

I made this version of the coat in a green linen with black buttons. I also think it would work really well in a metallic brocade. If done in black and gold it would make a marvelous opera coat. One singapore sling please!

Hi there. Thank you for your lovely comment. I designed the pattern myself. You can’t see in the picture but it is lined in hot pink satin. I’m planning on uploading more info soon so will keep you posted.

I love it! Is there only one asymetrical pleat? I’d love to see another picture in which the back is fully shown.

I am also curious about the pattern :), please tell us!

Hi there. There is a yoke at the top with the volume coming from that. The pleat is actually a wide box pleat at the centre back. It is 14 cm wide. I don’t have any pictures of the rest of the back at the moment but am planning on posting up further info soon.

Ah thanks so much for your quick reply! I am afraid my pattern making teacher will not teach me how to draft a coat pattern soon ;), but I might try to divert something like this from a coat pattern in my stash. I’m all inspired by your work ;).
