Description

My second coat, this time done right.

It’s made using a vintage pattern from the 1960s, SImplicity 4670. “Collarless coat has 3/4 kimono sleeves with gussets at underarms, concealed pockets, double breasted effect and is lined”. I used dark green mohair coating, silk/cotton underlining, hair canvas and polyester(?) brocade for the lining. The buttons are vintage, from my stash.

There was a lot of hand sewing involved, and I got to try a new bound buttonhole method (the ‘windowpane’ method). I am very pleased with this big box of a coat, it is exactly what I first envisioned.

Material Notes

Mohair coating, silk/cotton underlining, hair canvas, polyester brocade, faux tortoiseshell buttons.

    Thanks very much! It’s a button-on scarf on the pattern front. I didn’t make it no, as it needed to be attached to the neckline. I wanted a bit of freedom to choose my own scarf. An interesting idea though, I’ve seen it on some other 50s/60s coat patterns. I’ve fixed my blog link now too.
