Description

When I first saw this pattern I didn’t think too much about it. The yoke looked a little weird (Again, who in the world picks the fabric to showcase the patterns on the envelope???), but when I decided to make this dress I immediately remembered it and knew I’d have to go buy it because it was perfect. They look so similar, don’t you think?

One of my blog readers suggested I make two separate pieces (a top and a skirt) instead of the dress since it would be more versatile. I cannot agree more!

This pattern is really straightforward and easy. The hardest part is gathering the yoke and pinning it into place, and even that isn’t that difficult, it’s just majorly time consuming. I had “Hoarders” on in the background and worked on it. The yoke took a good hour to get right, so be prepared for that. The rest of the top was really quick to make, though. And just look at the results you get. Totally worth it!

The material is a silk charmeuse and I think it is perfect for this top. I recommend something with a lot of easy drape for this, something really lightweight and flowy. Others who have made the pattern on Pattern Reviewer said it’s a little too loose, but I think it’s just because cotton doesn’t drape like charmeuse, and that’s funny because the pattern envelope recommends cotton. The other views would do well with a crisper fabric, but for this neckline it’s all about something slinky. It may even work with the right chiffon? Actually, I think a chiffon in white or light beige would be really romantic looking, but I’m a lover of neutrals.

Conclusion: Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Material Notes

I know Simplicity will ship from their website, though I don’t know how much that is. The gathered yoke is laid on top of the yoke facing and it’s about twice as big as the facing. It’s as though they took the facing and made a 200% copy, if that makes sense.
