Simple 1940's Skirt

Added Apr 6, 2010

by missjanee

Pine Bush, New Y...

Here is Simplicity’s retro #4044 in a black-linen like fabric. It’s a simple pattern, even the notch wasn’t that hard to really do. I recommend that pattern to all levels. In the beginning I didn’t want to make the notch and then after sewing it all up I saw it was a little plain, almost waitress-y. I ripped the front seam and cut the notch out like the original pattern intended. It’s actually a really nice skirt that will go with some of the blouses I purchased for the spring.

Material Notes

Black linen-like fabric from joanns sale $8, invisible zipper from a yard sale $1. Project cost: $9

Garment Type
Casual, Classic, Romantic, Vintage
Blends, Linen

I love this. So simple, but the notched waistband adds so much.

The waistband is great! How does it hold up over the course of a day wearing it? Does it get squashed when you sit down?

Strangely no. I did have to take in a bit more once I did sew the notch, so it’s a little snug to begin with. Thank you for your comment!

Looks great on you and was cheap to make. This pattern is on my list of things to make i might move it up in the pile now having seen yours.

I did sort of overlook it for the year I had it, lol. Try the jacket too, I would love to see how it looks all made up! Thank you for your comment.

This is lovey. I’ve got a pair of trousers on my sewing agenda with a very similar “sweetheart” waistline!

I love vintage patterns but if I can get them in my size and shortcut from the process of resizing better for me! I just love that Easter coat you made, so cute! Thanks!
