I made this little romper with no pattern. Now, I realize that to the outside observer, this appears to be an ill-fitting, slightly odd-looking creation, but for me, this was a project of many firsts. Most importantly, I made my own pattern for the first time ever! I also used elastic in a project for the first time. Finally, this was my first time to ever use a serger!
I decided to make it high-waisted, which I think is the most significant mistake. I also probably could improve the fit of the top, it’s pretty loose and shapeless.
At any rate, it was very exciting to me to make something without a pattern, so I’m not disappointed with the results!

It looks cute! (and so do your pictures! :-)) But if you are not satisfied with the high-waist look, maybe you could try running a second elastic below the first one (on your natural waist), making a kind of a wide “midriff” area? Just a thought, for it does look great to me as it is!

I think your Romper looks fantastic! I wouldn’t be disappointed at all!

Oh but it’s so cute! And I’m normally not a big romper-fan. I think you should wear it with a belt, either a wide one, or a really narrow one in two rounds (perhaps pleated leather?). Great work, especially with so many firsts!

I think you should be ecstatic about the results. The high waist is not a bad idea at all… And, I’ll tell you something else: If you make this again and do so with a different print, possibly different material (linen?), throw on a belt and some heels. …rawr.

this is so good for without a pattern! and it makes me want to make a romper! i was debating whether or not to make mine highwaisted, which i don’t think is bad in yours. i have a super short torso so i’m leaning towards dropped waist. but great job! i also love the fabric. you cant go wrong with checks!

There is no need to be disappointed – it looks great. I’ve been hanging our to make a jumpsuit forever, but now summer in Australia is fading, will have to attempt one towards the end of the year. I like this alot! The way you have the checks in a chevron v on the shorts is awesome!!
