This is the result of quite a lot of experimentation (i.e. using my own pattern). It still isn’t quite what I want in a shirt, but it is close (there are still fitting issues I need to work out). The shirt has a wide neck so that it can still be buttoned to the top while not hugging the neck (it is not designed to be worn with a tie!). The cuffs are wide and the sleeve openings are unusually wide as well. The hem at the bottom of this shirt is flat. The front piece that contains the buttons and button holes is wide and slightly off-centered – at first I wasn’t sure I liked the effect, but now I find it suits me very well and presents an original edge you don’t find in ready-to-wear shirts. The shirt includes a standard stand-up collar design. Seams were serged.
The fabric is high quality hammered silk – it’s why it has the slightly crumpled look. The construction also includes a small amount of interfacing as well as the buttons and silk thread.
