Description

This little cocktail hat was the fastest project that I had to make for my millinery course assessment. The base of the hat is made with buckram and when you wet buckram, it is very easy to mold and shape and then it drys very quickly. Decorating the hat took the most time and that is the part I love most. The fabrics used to cover and decorate the buckram base are all silk.

Hi Irina, I have been very busy sewing and taking millinery classes but I never get around to downloading my projects on Burda. When Burda was having all those downloading problems, I kind of forgot about it. I use Instagram because it is so quick and you don’t have to write a whole of info. Are you on Instagram? If not, join up as there are lots of sewists using it and showing their projects.
I highly recommend millinery classes and England has some of the world’s best milliners and millinery suppliers. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding classes. I love it.
And thank-you for inquiring after me. I will sit down soon and down load some photos onto Burda just for you.

How absolutely lovely. My favourite colour combo too. What a great opportunity to do a millinary course x

Thanks Janene, it is a great opportunity and to have such a well run course so close by, I realize I am very lucky. Plus, I love it.

I don’t know anything at all about hats (it isn’t the culture at all to wear them where I live, except the occasional fedora), but I do know that yours is very pretty! I’m impressed that you’re taking a full course…will you be going into it seriously? I admire hats and their makers very much, and I know it’s not just because it seems so otherworldly to me!

I am not sure this course is going to take me anywhere but at the moment I am loving it. It is great to be around creative people and to be making things completely out of my normal everyday life. I have learnt some really great tips that apply to sewing clothes too, so even if I don’t become a milliner, I will have gained lots of really good experience.

It’s indeed great to be able to take a good course that you enjoy and that also teaches things unexpectably applicable to other aspects of your hobby – you’re so lucky! I hope you’ll continue to have a very enjoyable time and also show us your new creations!

Thank- you MojoHollz. Actually this cocktail hat doesn’t not suit me simply because of the fabric. I have dark brown hair and the hat doesn’t stand out. But on lighter coloured hair it looks great. These are the things you learn as you go along.

Irina you would love millinery classes. You are so creative and you would easily pick it up. I am sure there are great courses in England too. I buy millinery supplies online from England and I am sure you would have very good teachers there too.

Thanks Alei. Maybe you should find a millinery course to do. I promise you it isn’t difficult. You just need a good teacher and be taught the basics. Being creative and loving handiwork is the most important ingredient.

Thanks Mary. Yes, you would love the course and like me, love the company of the other students. We all get on so well and learn so much from each other.
