This outfit is my final entry for sewing comp, Project Sewn! The theme was ‘your personal style’ and I was inspired by the idea of pairing this smooth printed silk with the rough texture of this hand-loomed cotton and creating something cute and geometric. I used this pattern for the blazer, it’s fully lined, with welt pockets and two-pieced sleeves which I color-blocked. I’ve never attempted a blazer before, let alone one out of something slippery so it was pretty much the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to sew!
For the skirt, I used the tiniest weeniest remnant of hand-loomed cotton and drafted a lined, four-panelled mini, with a chevron front, darts at the back and an exposed zip. Every single scrap was used, there was literally not enough fabric left to hem so I chose to blanket stitch it with a contrast thread, which luckily suits the style anyway. The fabric was so thick, every seam had to be sewn flat against itself, and I reinforced the centre front with cotton stay tape.
