I made this skirt for my mother as a Christmas gift.
After I had made my brown wool dress, I still had pretty middle sized pieces of the fabric. I thought a skirt would be nice of it, and here came the challenging part. Actually it was fun. One night I had the idea that the Sidonie variation 2 could be the starting point. I had so little pieces that I had to use every mm of the fabric. (That’s why the belt is made of more pieces.)
Instead of the original pleats, I made an inverted box pleat at the sides. You can read my instructions how I did it. (sorry for the quality of the pictures.) The fabric was a dream to work with, it didn’t unravel at all, so I simply zigzagged the edges. The poliester lining was terrible, so to keep the inside nice and clean I used french seams. I used invisible zipper and blind hem to finish the skirt. My mom couldn’t try it to check the fit, so the skirt turned out a little loose at the sides, but she can still wear it.
Brown italian wool, with printed paisley pattern, lining, invisible zipper, button.
