This scarf was made from a pair of grey wool trousers, destined for the charity bin. I decided to re-purpose the garment into as many new items as possible.
For this project, I used the better part of one trouser leg. I lined the back with some soft brushed cotton fabric featuring a lovely botanical print in an Autumn colour palette. Ruffles were added (of course!) to the ends of the scarf. I used three buttons from the original garments waistband to embellish the edge and to give it what I think is a more distinguished look.
It is on the shorter side for a scarf, but it is perfect for my fitted jackets, when I don’t want to have excessive bulk tucked in at my chest. Though, I would not want to ever tuck it in and hide the super-girlie ruffle action!

Wow, very funky and chic, I love it. What a great use of a thrifty find and those buttons are wonderful. I’ll have to keep your fantastic idea in mind for when winter rolls around next year :)

This scarf is truly chic! HELLO fellow Torontonian ! (I miss Toronto dearly and Canada!) Your scarf is really, really, beautiful. Looks so rich like a well worn leather couch is what I first thought of when I saw it. So I was doubly thrilled to see that it was a pair of wool trousers! I love this, and I love those buttons. Are the buttons common or did you get them somewhere special——The buttons are perfect for your creation. Great job!

Hello ink!
Warm greetings, my fellow Toronto-gal! I hope things are well in South Carolina.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I truly appreciate them. This was a fun project for me to take on and I really enjoyed making this. Now I seem to be looking at every old garment twice (Do I really still need that? Am I going to wear that again?).
The buttons actually came with the trousers. There were 6 in total with one extra sewn into the lining of one of the legs. I love them too. I just had to use them, they look so vintage and chic. I will note that I have seen similar (though not exact) buttons at a few local fabric stores here in Toronto. I also came across a few at an antique mall.
=)
