My girlfriend in Malaysia loves large bags – “so that she can throw everything in”!!! When we met last November for a short vacation together, I made her this bag so that she can “shop till she dropped”. I had quite a bit of this wonderful bag fabric, so I decided to use it and then matched it with a faux animal skin fabric to complement it. For the bag handles, I attached 4 large grommets and hand sewed the fabric handles through it.
Well, I guess my girlfriend loved it because she took it everywhere with her!

Nomaliza, yenpetlee has a point – check out curain makers in KL – they should carry such supplies. That’s where I bought my large grommets from. The small half inch etc etc brass grommets can be found at a hardware store.

Nice, I still haven’t experiment with grommet tools…how much was it, I mean, the tools?

Well, for my first try (actually, the frist try was using brass grommets – check my slouch bags) I purchased a kit at the hardware store – the kit came with with 12 grommets, a cutting tool, a setting tool and I believe a piece of wood. Then, as I continue to make my other bags, I purchased only the grommet refills without the tools. Oh, you’ll also need a hammer! As for the large grommets, I browsed online as I had received an order to make grommet -style drapery. Found this company (forgot the name right now – sudah tua :(…..) that was willing to ship to Guam. I also purchased their cutting tool but it was difficult to work with, so I ended up cutting every hole with scissors! That was a pain! Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention how much it cost – hmmm, I think the small half inch grommet set was under US$10 and the large 2" grommets were under a $1 each, but then I bought in bulk. I tried China suppliers before but also very expensive.

If you’re in Malaysia and this is only your one time project. I think it is cheaper to bring it to the tailor or curtain shop to have them do the grommet for you.

yenpetlee: do you know where to buy the tools? As I’m making hand bags and sell it on line, if you have time do visut my b log at http://little-iro-iro.blogspot.com
I personally don’t like to buy materials online, as I don’t know the quality :)
