This isn’t just the world’s funkiest check fabric – it’s the world’s funkiest check fabric with stripes that are actually tape measures with centimetres and inches marked along them.
The dress is self-drafted, with inspiration from classic late-40s-early-50s sundresses. I decided to do a bustier front for the dress to keep with that aesthetic, as well as a half-circle skirt. The cups do have underwires included to keep the shape even. The skirt and the lower part of the bust are cut on the bias, with the main bodice, the straps, and the top part of the bust cut on the straight grain. I thought that having the cut alternating would add interest, and that the skirt on the bias would look best, so all other pieces were cut based on that one. The dress was incredibly fast to make, taking only a few hours.
As you can tell by the photos, it was a very bright day!
