This is not actually a sewing project per se, but rather a portrait of my Sewing Room, following the discussions of our sewing spaces in the blog and discussion pages. I’m not sure that my messy spaces are particularly inspiring, but they might be of interest to some among you! In order, the photos show, in a counterclockwise movement around my sewing room, (1) the bamboo ladders I use to store some of my fabrics ; (2) the shelves I use for sewing books and patterns and my ironing board and iron ; (3) my sewing table, actually an antique table, with my serger, sewing machine and hat-making devices ; (4) my professional dress form ; (5) the love seat that separates my sewing area from my sculptures (made from plexiglass, wire and eggs) ; (6) my home-made dress form and another of my sculptures ; (7) the fabric shelf in my sewing room. Also shown are (8) my downstairs fabric shelf ; (9) my dining room with a whole range of projects and fabrics laid out on various surfaces ; (10) my kitchen counter that I use for cutting patterns and fabric ; and (11) my computer area that I use for designing garments. Living alone has some advantages!

You think your is messy! I am sitting in such a disaster of a sewing room lately that I couldn’t even think of taking a picture of it. As always, I love your ideas on organizing your items. Great job!

@Small one- seriously…I have a 460 square foot apartment…so if you can imagine, lol. At least I dont have to move very far to get to from the machine, to the table, to the iron, to the mirror and back again :)

OK, I will post this to both of you, Gedwoods and Katui Kiwi WOW your sewing spaces are great and make me exceedingly jealous, I love the bamboo ladders for the fabric and the IKEA storage items are great, will take a look when in Melbourne next month. I have to share our space with my stamp collecting husband and 2 craft addicted girls, so although I manage to keep a sewing machine permanently set up we are usually all jostling for space!

Thanks for sharing your sewing work space. Organization and space is an issue for all of us.

What a great “project” to post Gedwoods, I think sewing rooms are always an ongoing project and I’m sure you’ll agree. I think I’ll post mine too with a similar name to yours and link it to you, maybe others would like to too, then we can all get ideas and it will help new sewers with set up as well :) I did an Ikea run yesterday and have tidied up so good timing, it’s so organised right now (until I start my next big project) even I’m embarrased, and I’m a bit of an organising nerd :)

I am jealous that you have a WHOLE room :) I’ve been looking to see if I cant carve out a corner in my already tiny 6’ home office. I think maybe with a little help from IKEA I can :)
