Burda Style For people who sew

When Rochelle at Lucky Lucille hinted at a 1940’s sewalong for February, my interest was piqued. I have a lot of vintage patterns, but none from the ’40’s, so I thought it might be fun to draft something. I did some online searching and found a couple of possibilities, including this one on etsy. I decided it was a good shape for Daughter No2, and in the spirit of the time, we decided not to buy anything for it. The fabric was found in my stash, as were the buttons. They’re the cutest little wooden buttons my mother sent me last year (at least, I think it was last year…)
The pattern drafting was fairly painless, I raised the neck and added revers, the facing looks like that on a waistcoat. This blouse is longer than that in the original pattern, because daughter wears jeans and skirts with a much, much lower waistband than they would have ever dreamed of 70 years ago! Saying that though the overall style has translated well. It has hints of it’s heritage, but certainly doesn’t look that old!
I used flat fell seams throughout and neatened the edge of the facing by turning under 5mm and stitching it down. I’ll have some more info and photos on the blog soon.
