Baton Rouge, Lou...
I found a gorgeous scarf this past summer, but it was huge (over 5’ X 5’!!). I wanted to make something out of it, but didn’t want to cut it since it’s so gorgeous.
I used an old swimsuit top to free-hand the bust of the dress (out of some scrap denim) Then, all I had to do was sew the scarf straight on the bottom. The back has a tasteful key-hole that starts below the denim and ends at my lower back. Instead of cutting the scarf, I let the excess fall loosely in the back, and folded the extra at the bottom up about 3" for the hem.
It took me about 3 hrs to make (mostly because I free-handed the bust pattern) and I wore it to a gallery opening the next night.
Please note that my dressmaker’s form is bigger than I am, even on it’s lowest settings. So, I had the pin the dress to it when I took the pictures. It’s actually fits me perfectly.
the material the scarf is made out of snags very easily :(
