Description

This beautiful sewing pattern was designed by Sean Cabezas, a senior Fashion Design major at Parsons The New School for Design. We wanted to offer an outsider’s fresh take on fashion, and we are in love with the outcome!

Inspired by dinosaur scales, this avant-garde skirt has 3 tiers consisting of multiple “scales” or hexagonal shapes of fabric. We made our sample in black hammered silk, but other silks could work just as well. You could also experiment with other types of drape-y, lightweight fabrics, too.

Please Note: The pattern indicates using a button for the closure, but you may find it more flattering to use a hook & eye clasp if you are not so keen on making button holes or having an exposed button.

P.S. – Get the sewing pattern for the awesome belt seen in the photos, here.

Ooh lovely textures. The silhouette is pretty and edgy I am eagerly awaiting the belt pattern as well!

Gorgeous! I love this skirt! So flirty and fun! I also really like the belt- it’s funky and doesn’t look too homemade like belts can. I’m excited for that pattern.

OoOoOoooh! What a lovely, beautifull skirt! This pattern comes on my “to do list” for this month! And I’m waiting for the belt… Thanks to Sean Cabezas!

It’s a nice skirt, with a rather a playful youngish look. It will be interesting to see members’ creations. I’m not sure I would go for this look but I’m curious as to how it would turn out if I tried it.

Perfect for those of us with a T body shape! Give us more of a figure by adding hips! Love it!

I might have to modify where the ruffles fall, but this is definitely very fashion forward. Great job supporting up-and-coming designers!

Great initiative Burdastyle! I’m not sure it’d suit my body shape but I sure like it. Hemming alls those “flakes” looks like a ot of work, though! And I hope “offering” the belt pattern means it’ll be free. It’s been a while!

if you make it from a light jersey, you won’t have to hem.

Wow, you really need some fug girls on this site, to keep you ladies in line and in a reality check.

      What are fug girls?

I guess fug girls are the ones behind this site: http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/, which I find very funny, but don´t think Burda style needs this :).

The comment is funny but I don’t think the skirt is fugly, I like it, even though I don’t think it will suit my body shape. I can see some cute creations coming, I can’t wait :) Just becasue the pattern is not for you doesn’t mean you should slam it, lets keep the comments creatively critical, there are so many different body shapes and types on this forum, I think BurdaStyle do a great job of giving us a diverse range of patterns, good job team :)

Hehe, I don’t think this is an inappropriate comment at all actually. And in some sense it’s true (this skirt is not for all, and not for all occasions, true. Though I think it’s quite refreshing).
But I’d love to see some of sewbella’s own creations.
Seems a bit, I don’t know, hm, to lurk around throwing harsh comments when you’re an expert, without showing your own work… c’mon girl, educate us, show us what it’s all about ;-)!

Thanks Ichigogirl for your comment. We strive to create a platform for constructive criticism and a running commentary on thoughts relevant to the pattern and what is to come. Thank you for setting a good example;)

Aha ok, that’s what fug girls are (I first thought that fug girls were ugly girls???). I now looked at this fugyourself website and it seems like this is sort of a perezhilton website for girls? It seems like all they do is make nasty comments about other people’s clothes. It sounds really tiring to have to be so negative about everything all day…pfff what a waste of time, really.
Anyhoo, I agree I would also really love to see sewbella’s creations!

I am really happy to see such a nice pattern as this week’s pattern! It wouldn’t be for me and my big hips, but I am looking forward what the other girls and guys on this site will make!

Very cute. Maybe not for everyone, but a nice skirt pattern none the less. I appreciate the picture where the model is lifting some of the pieces in the top tier.

It is very interesting and I agree that it is good to support new comers. Though I wouldn’t wouldn’t risk adding any new width (or an illusion thereof) to my hips, I think it would look really cool on those with figures similar to the model.
