Burda Style For people who sew

Say hello to project number 14 in my 52 Weeks of Sewing project! I put far more effort into this than the fabric was probably worth, but I learned a lot and that’s what counts, right?
I’ve been eyeing the Sean Skirt for a while and finally decided to spring and buy the pattern. The polka is a polyester charmeuse that I got as a remnant a few months ago. Not enough to make the whole skirt, but I found a matching charmeuse in a cream color, so I decided to go for it!
I wanted to make sure the fabric wouldn’t fray, so… every single seam is enclosed. Really, every single one. Not serger enclosed, we’re talking french seams and hong kong seams and possibly other seams I don’t know the name of. Have you ever tried to make bias binding from cheap charmeuse? It was less fun than I expected, and I sort of enjoy making bias binding.
Like some others who have made this skirt I backed all the tiered pieces with the same fabric to add a nicer finish when the skirt comes up (swing dancer requirement). Lots of fiddly pressing, fortunately no meltage, but I think it was worth the extra step. I also folded the waistband and added a covered button with a loop rather than a button hole (fraying risk reduction). Have I mentioned I recently learned about covering your own buttons? Seriously best discovery ever.

Yeah, this one spent about two weeks half-finished because it was just so many pieces and a surprising amount of labor. If you ever finish yours I look forward to seeing it!
