A place for everything and everything in its place.
The Christmas macbook air, finally has its place. The store had plenty of sleeves for regular macbooks but none for the slimmer ‘air’. Sure it would fit. But it would be roomy and lose its best asset, its slight frame. And, well, they weren’t as pretty as…
The scroll sleeve. The Alabama Chanin style hand-stitching is both form and function: it accents the scrolls and holds the batting in place. The outer fabric’s weave has two facing sides (like a damask ). Both are featured: one on each side.
This is a ‘toile’, of my own drafting and design. Its regaling appearance belies its humble composition. The scroll fabric is from the local community centre: industrial excess. Likewise the zip. The lining half price from tessuti. And the leather tab on the zip is from a book binder’s remnant box on etsy.
1) for the first time about Mila Schon an Italian fashion designer who’s name is woven into the lavish lining.
2) more about choosing between the serger and the sewing machine. I followed the principle “the sewing machine is for precision” and add to it my own, “hand sewing is for the impossible!”
OUTER: decorator fabric. MIDDLE: Bamboo and cotton batting. LINING: Mila Schon Acetate. NOTIONS: Zipper; Leather.
