I was inspired to purchase McCalls 5975 after seeing Gertie’s version of this dress some time ago. This is view B. It was very easy to make and is so comfortable to wear, and I get lots of compliments too. I’ll definitely be making this pattern up again. I love the pleats in the neckline and the cap sleeve.
I messed up the zipper placement a little bit and it doesn’t sit quite right at the bottom. Also perhaps I could have been more careful with the pleats as the facings didn’t sit exactly right and kind of wanted to roll out, so I did some anchoring stitches just to keep it in place.
The belt I already had in my wardrobe. Great match.

Sophia stretch doubleknit in Scarlet, from fabric.com.
I love this fabric, but once you are trying to sew through multiple thicknesses (e.g. pleats, etc) it gets a bit bulky.

Yes indeed, a gorgeous dress, pleats at the neckline are a perfect detail and the red is a winner on you, lovely. I will be buying this pattern too I think! : )

Thank you so much! I was definitely going for Joan/Christina when we did my hair, she’s a big influence.

You should make this in green, too! Would look so good with your hair! An olive or a pine green, maybe?

Thanks! I have the same fabric in the turquoise, and a more luxe knit in an ivy green, so will probably make it up with one of those. You’re right, I’m loving green with this hair colour (had been to the salon the day before I took these pics!)

It looks wonderful! I love the pleats too, and I think you’ve chosen a perfect color for it.
