My high school garduation was coming closer and closer and I didn’t have the dress for my party so I decided to make one. I’m so happy that all turned out well and just in time as making this dress wasn’t maybe the most clever thing to do under all that graduation and exam stress..
It took a while before I had made up my mind about the final design but from the beginning one of my ideas was to make quite straight dress, not a puffy-one but not a tight shift dress either. This was first time for me with scalloping and I’m allready fallen in love with it. Spalloping is like peter pan collars; they make every clothe more adorable and I really have to control myself from adding them everywhere.. The lace layer on the bodice is constructed with lace ribbon – more tricky than I thought!
satin, lining, lace ribbon, invisible zipper

Beautiful! I never would have thought to combine mint and lace! I’m intrigued with the lace top, how did you attach the ribbons to each other? did you topstitch them or hand stitch them? I wish I had the sewing skills I have now when I finished high school. oh well I’ll make dresses for all my friend’s weddings!

thank you so much! Actually I didn’t attach or sew the lace ribbons to each other but sew them one by one to the bodice fabric. I sew them with machine (too lazy :D ). and making dresses to friend’s wedding sounds great too!

So pretty and such attention to detail. I love the general shape of the dress. Did you use a pattern or self-draft? I feel a pair of little white lace gloves wouldn’t go amiss with this dress! :-)

Thank you so much! I drafted the pattern myself. And you’re right, little lace gloves would be great, I actually tried to look for some but didn’t find any for that occasion but maybe I should continue my search.. :)

This is such a sweet dress, perfect for high school graduation. I love the scalloped hem and the lace bodice. Both touches give it such a nice, finished, RTW feel. How did you do the scalloped hemline? Did you use a facing? Very inspiring!

Thank you !! I made the scalloped hemline by using lining. I simply sew the satin and the lining together, cut the seam allowances and turned the right sides out. I’m sure you’ll find some little better tutorials too:)

Such a sweet dress! The lace and scallops adds a very feminine and vintage feel that I LOVE! Your student cap looks like the ones we have in Denmark, and I am wondering if your traditions with the cap are similar to ours? We get ours imediately after the last exam, and we gather our closest friends and family to witness a parent or sibling putting it on our heads.

Thank you so much!! Fun to hear about your traditions and that your caps are similar to our’s. Our traditions are however a bit different; We get the caps in a special graduation ceremony where we get our diplomas. When the headmaster announces us to be graduates, we put the caps on our heads ourselves. After the ceremony we celebrate with our family, relatives and friends:)
