Scallop print coordinate top and skirt

Added Aug 28, 2014

I made this outfit for my godsons christening. I had this lovely Marimekko scallop print fabric and I wanted to make something simple to give the print the main role. A simple dress felt however a bit too simple so I made an outfit of top and skirt that I can also wear separately. The top is fitted so I had to add a zipper. Because my head fitted through the neckline without opening it I could sew the zipper upside down. I can really recommend this, you won’t need anyone to zip you up!

Material Notes

Marimekko cotton fabric, invisible zipper

Garment Type

it’s really cute! the only criticism I have is that I"d like to see the scallops go the other way on the top, maybe. then again, maybe not! really nice job. i don’t want it to sound like i’m hatin’ cuz i’m not! :)

Thank you! It’s only interesting to hear other views, I also considered placing the scallops going upwards but ended up doing it this way :)

Gorgeous dress, I just love it! You did such an amazing job matching up the scallop print too. Awesome idea about the upside zip, I might have to try that next time!

Thank you so much! I got the zipper-idea from our fashion history teacher, they really knew how to solve things in the old days ;)

Thank you:) I drafted the patterns myself, the skirt is although just a rectangle.
