Simplicity 2444 – Pattern Description:
Pleated dress with collar & sleeve variations. I made the sleeveless version of the dress and did not add a collar.
I sewed a size 14. The dress came together really easily and I think the pattern instructions were easy to follow. I really love the skirt pleats and darts on the bodice. The darts give a great shape to the dress without making it too fitted. I find that helps me stay cooler during the dog days of summer!
The only minor gripe I have with this is the lower waist. I prefer a higher waist as it’s more flattering on my body shape, but it’s not a dropped waist by any means. I think raising it maybe an inch would be perfect next time, but the dress really is adorable as is. I used a wonderful striped linen I found in the clearance section at my local JoAnn Fabrics for added coolness.
The only minor changes I made to the pattern were adding a rolled hem and using an invisible zipper instead of a standard one.
I love this dress and think I will sew it again with the stand collar and sweet little cap sleeves. I think this is a darling and feminine dress that would look lovely on anyone! Besides, who doesn’t love a dress with in-seam pockets??? :)
