Burda Style For people who sew
Description
A few days before I was to leave for a spring break cruise, I decided that I absolutely needed a special “Sail Away Dress.” Because I didn’t have a whole lot of time, I had to keep it simple. I used a Simplicity “Project Runway” pattern, and made the dress navy, white, and red. It all went pretty quick and simple. As usual, I made the dress 1 size smaller than the pattern package said for my measurements.
I’m pretty pleased with it. The things that I love the most are the cutesy flounce to the skirt, and the red bias at the hem. I also, for the first time in my life, felt that I met the perfect material for the particular dress in mind. The navy is a magical material with just a very slight stretch called a “bottomweight.” The one thing I don’t like is that it has some extra material bunching in the chest area near the arm holes. I am not sure whether this is because I have small breasts, a flaw in the design, or because I took out too much ease by making it 1 size smaller than my measurement size.
