Description
This little outfit is the perfect in between season piece. I like wearing it with a turtleneck or a little cardigan if it is too cold, otherwise just bare for warmer times. The pleats are created so that if made in a lighter but stiffer material, the skirt will puff slightly. Try it in seersucker for the spring or, like our example, a colorful plaid wool which is perfect for late winter/early spring days.

I just made this dress out of a yellow cotton. I found the bust to be REALLY tight (I’m only a 34B) and I did a size 36. It’s a litttle short but I wear spandex shorts with dresses so it’s okay. (I’m 5’9" and forgot to add length to it). I’m making it again out of dupioni later today. I love the shape of the dress in the photos because it seems very covering but curve hugging (good for wearing over a tee to school) but mine turned out a little less cute. I think when I do it out of stiffer fabric (dupioni) with a wider bust, it’ll be perfect.

HA! already doing my best to break that resolution! okay. i will measure myself. but i always do a 34/36 and come out floating around the bust… i think i must have a bit of delusion in that area. thanks so much for the top bra suggestion, i will definitely do that! (after, of course, pin fitting everything and pausing multiple times to try it out along the way :) )

But make sure to measure yourself well and go with that measurement! (remember your new years resolution!)
I would also suggest that you just sew up the top bra, (only sew one side seam, and pin the other one). Have somebody help you fit it on you! There is enough seam allowance to adjust it, before you sew it all up! It’s worth it!

Oonaballoona, that is an excellent idea! I will most definitely do that going forward. For this particular one I used a size 34. The top part is fairly small, because it is made so that it also works in stretchy material. I have not made any adjustments to it, but have to say that even though I am a 34/36 in most patterns myself, this one fits very tight on me on the top. I don’t know the measurement of the model, but I think that would maybe be something interesting for you guys in the future too.

i have a wish: it would be lovely to see a little breakdown of what size was used on the models for each pattern, and maybe if you did any adjustments. pretty please?

This is made to fit a very small or larger bust. As a matter of fact, the top is made so that you could make it out of stretchy material, but if you want to make it tighter, make it out of a woven and you will see that it will fit an A cup. It is also easily adjustable on the sides and the mid bust seam. I am glad so many of you are liking it. Furthermore, we wanted to let you guys know that we are about to start linking to fabric sites, so that you guys are able to buy the fabrics we are using. This will not work with all but a lot of them. Thanks for posting that link Sabrina, feel free to email us too, whenever you find fabric that looks like one we used or that would work well for a garment. Thanks everybody for all the great responses!

While I love the fabric it’s hardly ever warm enough here to wear something like this and from experience I know that it would be hard to get a Burda pattern like this to fit an A bust (which is too bad as it would look great with a small cup size as we can see on the picture)

I agree, the fabric here really makes this dress great! I’m thinking “rainbow plaid” would be an appropriate search term.
I’d cahnge the front to be a bit higher though, and the straps a little more inwards.
