My poor friend waited for months for me to finally sew her birthday present. This is my original design with bits of inspiration from Anthropologie. I found the ruffled trim idea on the princess seams from Anthropologie. I thought the exposed zipper would be a nice touch which I figured out how to do from Burdastyle. I used 2 patterns I believe. However I changed them a lot to fit my design. The skirt was a little tricky to figure out at first. I hat to take a simple a line skirt pattern and transform it into a pocket front, gathered skirt. It was mostly just time consuming. But it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. Yay! The fabric is a satin polyester from Joann. The dress has a lot of vintage feel to it. It fit my friend perfectly and I had a lot of fun making it for her!

I love the contrasting exposed zipper – it takes a pretty floral dress and gives it just that bit more of an ‘edge’.

Thank you! I used Butterick 4443 for the bodice and skirt and I used Simplicity 2444 for the sleeves.
