I’m know I’m not the first to make the Ruby shorts pattern into full trousers, and if anyone is tempted Ito try, ’d recommend it. It was easy to do, I just traced the shorts pieces and drafted on longer legs. The shape of the shorts pattern kind of makes wide legged trousers the only option without a fair bit of re-drafting, but that was the look I was after as I had a sailor vibe in mind.
I made them as I didn’t have enough trousers options to see me through my Me-Made-March challenge in which I am only wearing clothing I have made myself (excluding bras, socks and tights). These trousers have more or less become my jeans replacement.
More on these trousers and other biz on my blog: http://sozowhatdoyouknow.blogspot.com/
Navy twill with a bit of stretch. Vintage pearl buttons from my stash.

These are great! I am not into shorts, but I am so into sailor pants. My fav trousers ever were Navy-issue, complete with the sailor’s name written onto the tag. Totally wore them out and left them behind on a year abroad. I am definitely going to have to make these!

i love the buttons at the side look, and yes, infinitely easier than messing around with a fly. i’m aiming to make some 1950s swing pants, which have a similar look to them.

Oooh, please send me the link to your swing pants when you make them so that they don’t pass me by!

Thanks so much for your comment. Funnily enough, I more or less AM living in these and my jeggings! The Ruby shorts/trousers was a relatively quick project as you don’t have to mess around with a fly front, I recommend it a lot. All the best

Love it. I love everything nautical…. especially now that spring is around the corner. I think this is a fabulous twist on a darling BS pattern. Good job.
