Royal Blue Kasia

Nashua, New Hamp...
I bought this white cashmere sweater from the thrift store and decided that it would look perfect with a blue sailor style skirt (I have an obsession with sailor style pants and skirts…this is my 4th ‘sailor button front’ garment). I was going to try and modify my sailor pants pattern to work as a skirt but then I remembered the Kasia pattern. At first I was worried the the gathers on the hip yokes would not work on me, but I actually like them. The instructions on how to attach the pockets/facings/hip yokes were a bit confusing, but having done similar styles before I knew how to do it (I find that if you follow their directions literally, you end up sewing it backwards).
This was some royal blue cotton blend that was in a box of fabric and notions that a friend picked up for me at a yardsale. The fabric and blue zipper were free. I love free stuff. The lining of the pockets was cheap white lining fabric left over from another project. I deliberately pressed and topstitched the pockets so that the edge of white showed to create subtle contrast. The buttons are not a solid white, but rather a clear/white color…I wanted white buttons but I wanted it somewhat subtle. I graded this down to a 32 and removed 3.5" from the length and the fit was absolutely perfect. This is my 4th Burda pattern so far and of everything I have ever sewed, the Burda patterns never need any alterations other than grading down.
