Description

Simplicity 1692: Misses vintage 1940’s tops have darted waistline. A, B with bias-bound jewel neck has long or short puffed sleeves; kimono sleeve C, D has buttoned shoulders and jewel or scoop neck. American Sewing Guild.

I love just about everything about this classic silhouette. I have already made a previous version, and I am sure I will be using this pattern again and again. Next year, I believe I will tackle one of the short-sleeved versions.

For this version, I decided to change the sleeve for a bit of variety. Since the long-sleeves are made to fit the armscye, I traced the top of the sleeve head from the View A sleeve. Using the sleeves from Advance 5470 as a guide, I flared both sides of the sleeve so it has a nice drape and hits at the 3/4 length mark.

I added 1.5" to the length this time around to make sure the blouse stays tucked in! And since I was adding length (and the hips on this design are rather fitted) I also added some width to the bottom edge for ease of wear.

I love my new blouse. And I am so proud of myself for making more separates! That was last year’s sewing resolution, and I may be a bit behind, but I am slowly learning the benefits of the versatile separate. More skirts and blouses to come, I hope!

More photos may be found over on my blog, Lilacs & Lace.

Such a gorgeous make! I’m especially impressed with your edit of the sleeves. Takes the pattern to a whole new level. I found your version searching for photos of the pattern made up and want to follow your example with my version!
