The pattern is from a Japanese pattern book called “Dress Made of My Favorite Cloth” by Machiko Kayaki (ISBN: 978 457 911 1909). I like it, however the fit isn’t quite right around my arms :( I should have made it a bit looser. Typically Japanese girls are so skinny and short that I usually can’t fit into anything that’s sold in retail, and I should have remembered that it’s a Japanese pattern book that I referred to :P

Super Cute! Love the Japanese books. I’ll have to muster the guts to attempt a pattern from the ones I got!

I love the style of this! I think your issues with the fit are due to a low bust point. Jennie Chauncy of Sense and Sensibility Patterns calls this a “Ballerina Neckline” I have this problem and using her alterations fixes both the too tight arms and an empire line that doesn’t hit below the bust. Here’s a link to the alteration: http://www.sensibility.com/pattern/whynot.htm Happy Sewing!

I don’t know why, but it looks so natural to me. I like the buttons at the back. Really beautiful!

What a sweet, tender dress. It looks like it fits you beautifully in the photo (though I understand actually living and moving in a garment is another thing entirely). Thank you for referencing the book for us.
