Description

When I finished the dress I was happy with result and I really like it a lot!
The dress is really worthy, flattering for any figure and gives you a feeling that all your romantic dreams come true but only if you have several days to make it and somebody near you to help with trying on.

So… If you are suddenly invited to the party, have nothing to wear ( as always) and think that this dress will be ready in a day and night, you are mistaken a lot :)
The bust part is a real trap. I suspected this from the beginning because if you have the breast more than 0 size, it will never keep the shape in front: either your boobs will be on the waist line or ( after shortening the straps ) you’ll have a pretty vulgar look.

For my 40 size (bra – 75C) and my height 166 cm, I had to shorten the back part of straps for 1 cm and front – for 4 ( it put my breast on the right line ). Then to give the right form for the cups, I cut their front center parts from the top to the middle point ( I draw it on the paper pattern to show here ). I made it when draping was ready and it helped to change the caps properly. I had to re- gather the draping but it wasn’t a trouble because the edges stayed open.
One more piece of advice – if your fabric has no huge print like mine, it will be easier to make zipper in the center back seam.
And I also made a central insert not let my breast be outside too much and feel comfortable.

Material Notes

I used two fabrics – cotton and rayon blend with flower print as main and cambric for straps and lining ( main fabric is too transparent). Both of materials are so pleasant for a body and touch!

Gorgeous dress! From the picture shown with Printed Maxi-Dress 05/2013 #123, I understand the centre bust piece (no 1) was not used – is this correct? I am trying to figure out whether I should use the piece or not. Thank you!!

Thank you very much for the compliment!
Of course, you have to use all the pieces otherwise you don’t get a cup for the breast!
The bust piece – detail #1 was used but to get better fitting I had to cut it from the top to the center of the detail: on the last picture you can see my new line in blue colour, the red part was cut; in fact I removed mark 2 to the middle of the top edge. It provided the fitting of the straps and better shape of cups for my breast.
But it is very indivudual: you only can decide how to change the cups or straps when trying on. Maybe for your figure you don’t need any changes at all.
But anyway the length of the straps should be checked before you join the bodice and the skirt so it’s better to baste the back, front and strap pieces at first to be sure.

Thank you very much for kind words! Sounds encouraging, especially about sleeveness style because sometimes I have doubts about arms opened fully.

I just LOVE what you did with this dress ♥! I actually have very tiny boobies (HA!), but was afraid too much of my chest would be showing. I didn’t even think to add the inset. Thanks for being smarter than me – LOL!

I also to have a party some day to shine there:)) Thank you for your nice words, I’m glad you like it. I saw your variant of the same pattern, it seemed to be simple to make. Mine was a little troubling but the result is worth the efforts!

Yes it was very simple because I used the pattern 07-2009-116 ( similar to 5-2013-123) which has a more closed front bust. It was also easier because I have small bust and the fabric was elastic.
I had promised to myself not to repeat a pattern twice and instead try new models, but now that I saw your dress I’m dreaming of a second try on 07-2009-116. If I find a lovely flowery print like yours I will knock your dress off:)

      I don’t mind:)))
I don’t like repeats, too. I wish I could make at least those patterns I want right now :) But some patterns can be used with different modifications and thus we can get different outfits.
