I was asked to design and create helmet covers for my sister’s Roller Derby Team
I think they call them Panties?
Basically it is just a hat that covers any type of skater helmet.
For Roller Derby there is one team member called the Jammer – she scores the points. Her Hat is special as it has a star on each side so the Ref can identify her on the track.
All the other girls can have either Plain or striped helmet covers.
Pictures to come Soon
Lycra, Spandex or anything with a four-way stretch must be used as this will create the tight security around the helmet
Elastic is also used in the casing on the brim to fit tightly over and under the helmet.

YAY Palmerston!!… I’ve made HEAPS (from my own pattern) for my league & teams for the great southern slam in Adelaide, Australia, And I’m proud to say some of my helmet covers even got worn at ROLLERCON this year :) – Any one see the Mortal Wombats??? I can pretty much new sew them with my eyes closed now lol. My most recent request was to make some out of fishnet mesh for our first aiders to wear for the entire length of our training sessions so they are easily identified. They work great & not too hot like lycra can get.

Thank you so much for sharing your pattern. I’ve been “volunteered” by my daughter to make some for her team. Roller derby is a new sport for us here in Palmerston North, New Zealand.
