This is a dress which I made for my friend’s son’s wedding just this christmas gone. We took inspiration from Roland Mourets galaxy dress which my friend really liked (but not as figure hugging!) and designed our own version. The dress featues a flattering square neckline a fitted bodice with princess seams and a thick hem. I also designed some shaped cap sleeves to compliment the simple silhouette of the dress. As simple as this dress may seem it took 3 fittings to get exactly right as I designed and made a pattern specifically to my friends measurements. This was a challenge but I learnt loads through doing it and working with this fine slippery satin fabric! More blogged about here:

Excellent work! I am going to read about it on your blog… . I tried myself something like the galaxi dress and I know that it is really hard to fit the neckline.

Thanks for the comments guys!! Imchen great dress! it’s nice to see your example of the shoulder area. I didn’t sit down to work out how to draft that shoulder part as a separate piece. I think I would have had to buy the pattern to see how it was done – but there were so many other areas that needed sorting out. Like the bust area and also taking out a lot of sway back so that there weren’t wrinkles at the waist area of my friends back. I think shift/fitted dresses are way harder to fit than they look, don’t you think?bxx
