Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I needed a fairy tale costume for work but I didn’t want to be a princess or a witch. So, I chose this costume. I used Simplicity’s 0866. I used 2 yards of suede cloth for the overdress and calico cotton for the underdress. I really wanted to learn how to make that corset bustier portion and those basket type sleeves. It wasn’t as hard as I thought but it took forever to cut out the individual sleeve portions.
I also made the cape and the sling carrier for the bow and arrows, plus matching gloves. For the capelet I used Fleecefun’s free pattern for Red Riding hood cape.
I also made the hat yesterday. No pattern I just fussed with felt til I felt ok with it. My boyfriend made the arrows and I’m waiting on the bow.
Material Notes
2 yards suede cloth, 1.5 yard beige cotton, 16 1/2 in buttons, 1 yard lining, 1.5 yard crushed velvet, 1/2 yard of brown corduroy, 18 inch zipper, 1 yard of brown ribbon, 1/2 yard of felt , two feathers, two dowels for the bows
