Thanks! to reply to nenasew and ipires, I made it as a commission for a lovely lady I know who does recreational dances in big historical halls and country houses in the UK. She’s part of a dance troupe of sorts, but only in her spare time. It was a relatively cheap costume though because I got all the pink brocade off ebay – 30 metres for £30.

I made another one, just for myself after as a zombie marie antoinette costume – the reason I can make anglaises pretty cheap is 1.) ebay-tastic bargains like above, and 2.) there’s a curtain shop where I live (in Cardiff, Wales) that sells most of its stock at 50p a metre (that’s about 75 cents a metre I think) , wheras it may normally be five or six times that price. I once got over 20 metres on a roll from there – the shopkeeper couldnt be bothered to take it off and count 16, so they said have the whole roll for the same price as 16. That was £8!

Great! I love a good Anglaise! I would (one day) make one, but can’t find a good reason to justify the time + amount of money that amount fo fabric implies. What were your reasons?

    Thanks :)

I was doing a 9-5 job at the time, so I worked till 11 every night for about a week and a half. This was the first time I made a robe so it was faffy, but the next one I made took about a quarter of the time!
