trying to make this at the moment but getting a little confused with the instructions. In particular how the facing fits in, i don’t understand where it goes or what to do with it and there aren’t any diagrams to clarify…any help would be welcome.

Correct, the front is cut in a zig-zag, so the buttons also zig-zag down the front.
