This is a dress partly made from a mistake. It wasn’t meant to tie at the shoulders or back, but I forgot that the pattern I based the bodice on doesn’t include seam allowance, so I had to come up with a way to disguise my stuff-up. So a scrappy piece of cheap purple satin came to the rescue. But in the end, I think that rescue suits the dress much better than normal shoulders and a button at the back!
The pattern is largely self-designed, although I did use an old downloaded pattern as a guide for the bodice front and top back. The bodice is fully line to make it a bit more structured and because the fabric is quite thin, and the skirt is just a gathered rectangle to show off the fantastic border print. Although I am a little iffy on a lurid yellow nuclear waste river in real life, even if the kids on the fabric seem to be having fun.
